4:02 pm May 10th, 2009

When all the musical cues for a film project (seen here as the hundreds of green boxes ) are viewed together, the maze of interlinked audio looks like a strange map or perhaps a labyrinth.
Then again, after staring at this screen for the past few weeks… my judgement may be impaired.

NighVisit
The illustrious DETOUR:NYC’s Premiere Film & Noir Arts Festival
screened Ken Hall’s creepy film “Night Visit” last weekend in New York. The film once again met with great response, and even better reviews. Not bad for a film that technically has been out of the festival circuit for over a year. The film stars genre legend Lynn Lowry (George Romero’s “The Crazies”, David Cronenberg’s “Shivers”), and was scored by none other than Mars.

Mars has moved into video game music with his offbeat “Middle-East meets Ms. Pacman” musical score to the upcomming PC Game, “DURKA 3D: The Fall Of Ahmadinejad” from Petrilla Entertainment.
This action packed, satirical, first person shooter will guarantee laughs, and an orgy of onscreen violence. Yep, fun for the whole family.

Written and directed by Mike Watt, the film boasts a cast featuring legendary genre ladies Brinke Stevens and Debbie Rochon, as well as Amy Lynn Best (who will be producing as well), Robyn Griggs (NBC’s Another World), Lilith Stabs (Malefic), Nikki McCrea (Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut), Sofiya Mina Smirnova (A Feast of Flesh), Rachelle Williams (Jess Franco’s Take-Away Spirit), Aaron Bernard (Pirates of the Carribbean 3: At World’s End) and micro-budget favorite Henrique Couto (Faces of Schlock).

Mars promises the score won’t feature a synth sound newer than 1988, and will be very much an homage to filmscores like “Night Of The Demons”, “Fright Night”, and “Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers”.

30 SECOND DOOM

6:30 pm April 5th, 2009

Giant Robot
The ambitious folks at rocketmania.com have been hard at work on episode 1 of their retro sci-fi homage to the Rocket Man sirreals of the 1950’s. Titled “30 Second Doom: Terminal Dive”, the awesome short film captures the thrills, chills, and fun of the original. Mars has provided a score that is very stylized and full of classic hero fanfare in the great tradition of “Buck Rodgers” and “Flash Gordan”. The film will play at Wondercon later this year, where it has been nominated for a 2008 Rondo Award.
