So, why did the the greatest HPL news website choose to interview Lovecraftian film composer MARS instead of Richard?

STARCRASH DVD nominated for Rondo Hatton award

I’m proud to announce that a project near and dear to my black heart; the long-awaited DVD/Blu-Ray release (thru “Roger Corman’s Classics” series) of the 1978 Itallian STAR WARS rip-off /tour-de-force STARCRASH has been nominated for a 2010 Rondo Hatton award for “Best Commentary”.
Stephen Romano’s 2 feature length (yes, I said TWO!) commentary tracks are truly deserving of your vote. Not content to just detail the behind-the-scenes; he also gives a contextual perspective on the state of world cinema of the 1970’s, and just where the “Summer Blockbuster” mentality all began.
VERY impressive and entertaining at the same time. Among the other plentiful special features is an audio featurette (by yours truly) on the music of John Barry (most well known for his work on the JAMES BOND series). If that wasn’t enough, there is the FILM itself…a colorful, vibrant, work of Sci-fi exploitation made all the better by epic performances by Caroline Munro, a very young David Hasselhoff, and a rather reserved Christopher Plummer.

SLIME,SLIME,SLIME

Mars has completed his score to Gregory Lamberson’s “SLIME CITY MASSACRE“, and the music has been dubbed “The best soundtrack I’ve ever heard for a low budget movie” by the film’s director himself. This is the sequel to his 1988 splatter-fest/cult film phenom “SLIME CITY“, and it is being courted by fans and press alike as a much anticipated return to the 1980’s exploitation film stylings of yesteryear. The film’s cast features genre icons Debbie Rochon, and Lee Perkins, plus Playboy Playmate Angela Leigh, Troma guru Lloyd Kaufman, and “Document Of The Dead” director Roy Frumkes in a rare cameo.
There is an intensive behind-the-scenes, 26 episode series available for viewing on YouTube that you can check out now. The film is set to be released early next year.
More slime, more cannibals,more gunfire, more evil cults,more mutants,more,more,more!

SHOCK FESTIVAL Trailer

POP/Alternative Cinema has posted the first trailer for their upcoming DVD adaptation of Stephan Romano’s award-winning book “SHOCK FESTIVAL“.
Mars’s homage to 1970’s funkploitation; the music track named “Damn Straight’ is the music used in the trailer.
The whole project looks amazing, and the actual release will feature 2DVD’s and a separate audio disc featuring 10 tracks Mars wrote specifically for the project.
More info as the release date becomes definite.

DEAD WORLD meets DEAD HOUSE

Mars has just finished a video clip for the legendary horror comic DEAD WORLD.
Gary Reed; the comic’s writer, and Mars collaborated on the project, and both men are quite pleased with the morbid outcome.
The comic is set to become a feature film, which is being written by David Hayter (screen writer of X MEN & THE WATCHMEN).

Lovecraft’s “SARNATH” comes to life

Mars has signed on to write the music for Red Hatchet Films latest Lovecraft film, “BOKRUG”, a stop-motion adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Doom that Came to Sarnath”. The film tells the story of the decadent city of Sarnath, whose greatness is built on the destruction of an older race of beings who lived in the stone city of Ib, where they worshiped an ancient, reptilian god called “Bokrug”. On the night of the 1000th anniversary of Ib’s destruction, strange forces signal that the beings of Ib are about to be avenged…

Director/animator Michael Granberry (”From Beyond”) has released a few test shots of some of the puppets and sets from the film, which he hopes to have completed by the spring of 2010.

Audio Maze (Daze)

When all the musical cues for a film project (seen here as the hundreds of green boxes ) are viewed together, the maze of interlinked audio looks like a strange map or perhaps a labyrinth.
Then again, after staring at this screen for the past few weeks… my judgement may be impaired.
In any event, CRAWLER is nearing completion.
